about laura

Laura Chambers (she/they) considers herself an intuitive thinker and creator who continuously strives to explore and grow in various creative fields. Originally from Florida, she relocated to Atlanta to plant her roots as a freelance choreographer and movement artist in May 2023. She is currently a company member with Fuerta Dance Company and has recently performed in the MAD Festival, FallforFall Dance Festival, and Fuerta’s annual production titled sole.

Laura has studied dance extensively through various movement artists and dance festivals, including the American Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival, the University of the Arts Pre-Professionals Program, and the Florida Dance Festival. This past summer, she traveled to Sorrento, Italy with staibdance where she delved into movement research and worked with renowned choreographers Nimrod Poles, Oliver Robertson, Gavriel Spitzer, and more. Laura’s movement style and compositional work is greatly inspired by improvisational practices, gaga, and investigating topics revolving around internalized dysphoria and though - and how to bring a deeper, and sometimes uncomfortable, understanding of the human experience to the surface.

Laura prides herself on the work she has done with various arts nonprofits, including being Marketing Coordinator for Sarasota Contemporary Dance (2021-2022) and Communications Manager for the Urbanite Theatre (2022-2023). Being an advocate for the arts has greatly inspired their work as a choreographer and strives to continue bringing their art as a movement artist into the community in any possible capacity.

Laura completed her Bachelor of Science in Media Studies from The New School in 2020, and her Associate of Arts in Modern Dance from the University of South Florida in 2017.
